SCRMC Celebrates National Volunteer Week April 12-18

Posted on April 8, 2015

The City of Laurel has joined other cities across the nation in recognizing the vital role volunteers play in the community.

National Volunteer Week 2015Mayor Johnny Magee expressed his gratitude to the dedicated citizens on Tuesday, April 7th by declaring April 12 – 18 National Volunteer Week. He signed the proclamation for South Central Regional Medical Center, a place he said volunteerism is most evident.

“It’s important to recognize volunteers because they just kind of slide under the radar a lot of times,” said Mayor Magee. “People don’t know they’re there and when they see them a lot of these people think they’re being paid, but they’re just doing it out of their goodness of their heart.”

In 2014 SCRMC had approximately 60 volunteers who gave more than 6,500 hours of service to the facility.

“Volunteer is a very vital part of our team,” said SCRMC Volunteer Coordinator Bonnie Smith. “They help our staff extend caring and excellent service to our patients and visitors and they also help and encourage our staff.”

SCRMC will have an awards ceremony on Thursday, April 30th, where they will be recognizing their volunteers. Smith said the hospital is always looking for volunteers.
