There's No Place Like Home: Trest Family Edition

Posted on November 16, 2015

South Central Regional Medical Center presents part three of There’s No Place Like Home. There’s No Place Like Home features testimonials from local fathers on their experiences raising children and having a family in this region. This week we take a look at the Trest family.

“Jones County is home,” Adam Trest, local artist, stated when asked why he chose to start a family in his hometown. Adam and his wife, Lily, their two year old daughter, Fincher, and two dogs reside in Ellisville. “We have lived away, but there is no other place that we want to raise our daughter. Our families are so deeply rooted here and we want to share Fincher’s childhood with family and friends.”

Adam and Lily, both raised in Jones County, moved away during college and began careers in other states. However, when they began dating, decided to be married and start a family, they were led back home.

“Jones County is such a special place. It has so many different facets of life that I think people do not expect from a small Mississippi town. There are a variety of organizations and establishments that mean so much to our state and its history. Combining those with the quaint feeling of home really makes Jones County unique,” says Adam.

When Adam and Lily learned they were expecting a baby, they immediately knew they wanted to experience their daughter’s arrival with familiar faces and the comfort of home.

“My daughter was delivered at South Central Regional Medical Center by Dr. Michael Weber. We had such a great experience. We loved the facility. The room was so comfortable it reminded us of home. The meals were always delicious and fresh,” said Adam. “That day, which was also our first wedding anniversary, was a happy day. So much excitement and nervousness and we were happy to share it with caregivers who actually care.”

Today, Adam and Lily spend their weekends with Fincher visiting their families and friends, feeding ducks in the pond at Jones County Junior College and enjoying the community events in Jones County. Fincher plays a special role in the Trests’ life.

Adam says one of the best parts of being a dad is hearing his daughter call him daddy. “You do not know how much a word can affect you until a little short person calls you that,” says Adam. “Fincher knows exactly what she wants. I love to see her grow and learn new things every day. It really makes life good.”
