One of the most beneficial procedures performed at South Central Regional Medical Center is a total knee replacement.  Dr. Derrick Burgess explains that the doctor removes about a centimeter of cellophane and fit a metal prosthetic on the femur and the tibia with a piece of plastic in between them to form a new knee.  Sometimes immediately after surgery, the patient can start physical therapy.  Physical therapy is offered in the patient’s home.  The physical therapist that they start off with is the one that the patient will use, so it helps their comfort level and total outcome.
