Dr. Stacy Street Receives National Board Certification in Wound Care Management

Due to the complex nature of chronic wounds, wound care treatment uses an interdisciplinary approach to wound management and healing. By using combined knowledge of all healthcare disciplines — from surgery to primary care —effective chronic wound care management can be provided. With this, wound care treatment calls for physicians who are specially trained. Local physician at South Central Regional Medical Center, Stacy Street, MD, General Surgeon, has achieved a national board certification for wound care management.

Dr. Street, Medical Director of South Central Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, is a graduate of Marshall University School of Medicine and completed her residency at the Medical College of Georgia. She began practicing as a general surgeon in 2001 and previously served as a general surgeon at Laurel Surgery Clinic for 12 years. Dr. Street is Board Certified in general surgery and is a fellow of The American College of Surgeons. During her time as a general surgeon, her passion for wound care management grew and she took on a role as a full time wound care and hyperbaric medicine physician.

Board certification in wound management is achieved only through a rigorous process by the American Board of Wound Management (ABWM). The goal of the ABWM is to establish and elevate the standard of care across the field of wound management. Currently, 3,700 individuals have achieved this accreditation, and only 5 physicians are in the state of Mississippi.

Dr. Street stated, “The mission of our facility is to be wound healing experts: driving wound healing and prevention forward to help heal wounds and change lives. We are committed to advancing wound healing with our patients and in our community. Achieving Board Certification in Wound Management, is an honor and truly shows the dedication we have to healing our patients.”

South Central Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time.
