Child abuse plagues all communities. It often times goes unnoticed and unreported. Certified counselor, Rhonda McNair says to look for changes in the attitude and behavior of your child. It is best to keep a line of open communication on this subject. If you suspect sexual abuse, you should always ask the child if something has happened. As a parent, make sure you are never blaming your child or making them feel as though it is their fault. If your child comes to you and says something has happened, it is your job as a parent to believe them. They need to talk about it so that it does not continue untreated. When the abuse goes untreated, it can lead to many other issues as your child grows and matures. Adults who have not been treated for childhood sexual abuse are more than twice as likely to commit suicide. It is your responsibility as a parent to find out if something has happened to your child and get them the proper help they need. Do not hesitate to call our counseling center at 601-426-9614.
