Palliative Medicine is the specialized care of people living with chronic illnesses, and focuses on symptom management.
Dr. Lisa Bond says, “Cancer patients probably have one the highest symptom burdens of all patients.” She further states that “Cancer and serious illness doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It happens to the patient, it happens to the family.”
Dr. Bonds says her concept of care involves the whole person, so that multiple disciplines can pull together to help the patient. She wants to get to know the patient so that they feel free to tell her what they are wanting to accomplish and what they are willing to tolerate.
