Diabetes is a disease that occurs when a person’s blood contains too much glucose, or sugar, which can lead to serious health problems. Dr. Kelly Shoemake of Ellisville Medical Center explains the differences in the types of diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes is known as juvenile on-site diabetes, and is most often diagnosed in children. “That type of diabetes…is responsive only to insulin.”
Type 2 diabetes is the one more people are familiar with, and it accounts for approximately 90% of the diabetes cases. It’s more of an insidious on-set, and it can develop into the 30s, 40s and 50s. Most common symptoms are increased uriniation (especially during the night), increased thirst and increased appetite.
