South Central Regional Medical Center (SCRMC) has been recognized as a leader in community health education and outreach programs for more than 25 years. Many of the programs offered by SCRMC are funded by the South Central Health Care Foundation. This year, the South Central Foundation has planned a new event for the children of the community – a children’s health fair. The health fair will take place on Saturday, July 23rd at South Central Place in Laurel.
“Children are our future and their health is so important,” states Karen Vanderslice, BSN, RN, CCE, Community Education Coordinator for SCRMC. “It is vital to their growth and development.”
The Children’s Health Fair is a free event that will take place at South Central Place in Laurel. The event will feature DNA Identification Registry, Fingerprinting and Photo Identification Registry, Vehicle Roll-Over Simulator, Texting and Driving Simulator, Car Seat Check, Fire Safety Course, Be Your Best Self Mobile Classroom, Ambulance and Fire Truck Tours, health education booths, health screenings and more.
“The event is a day of fun and education for the entire family,” stated Vanderslice. “We are proud to be able to host a children’s health fair specifically designed for area children. We have various community organizations that will be participating in the event. By attending this event, parents and children will gain useful knowledge that can be applied to each stage of a child’s life.”
Along with educational information, children will also be treated to fun activities. Games, face painting, balloon art, photo booths, food vendors and more activities will be offered to all who attend.
“The Children’s Health Fair is offered to all families in our community at no cost,” states Vanderslice. “This event is funded by the South Central Health Care Foundation. The goal of the South Central Foundation is to improve community health and provide health resources to those who need it most.”
The Children’s Health Fair will be held Saturday, July 23rd, at South Central Place in Laurel from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. For more information about the event, please contact South Central Regional Medical Center at 601-399-0501.
