According to Jessica Smith, audiologist with ENT Surgical Clinic in Laurel, hearing loss is one of the most common health issues in adults. She states that it is more prevalent in men since they tend to work in louder atmospheres. Some signs and symptoms of hearing loss include having to have people repeat themselves often, turning the TV louder than everyone else, and trouble hearing on the telephone. It is important to treat hearing loss because studies show that if left untreated, it can lead to isolation and depression. There are two main types of hearing loss: medical and nerve damage.
To evaluate hearing loss, South Central Health Care Foundation is offering a free hearing screening on Friday, June 16th. To schedule an appointment, call (601) 399-0501.
