COPD is a chronic condition of the lungs and is often life threatening. Dr. David Harrison, medical director at the hospitalist program at South Central Regional Medical Center, explains, “Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is a condition of a lung whereby the lungs develop inflammation over a period of time due to exposure to certain substances.” Smoking is the most common cause of COPD.
