Almost six million adults are living with heart disease in the US. Dr. David Harrison, medical director at the hospitalist program at South Central Regional Medical Center, explains, “Heart failure is a general term that is used to refer to a heart condition that is caused by a number of factors.” The following are symptoms of heart failure: shortness of breath, weakness during basic activities, swelling of the legs, chest pain, and shortness of breath while lying down.
