SCRMC HealthBreak | Hip and Knee Replacements

Posted on July 24, 2017

Hip and knee replacements are on the rise in the United States. Each year, almost three million Americans have a total hip replacement, while about five million Americans have a total knee replacement. Dr. Charles Black, a fellowship trained hip and knee specialist at South Central Regional Medical Center says that most of the time people have total joint replacements so they can get back to their lives. Some indicators of bad hip pain can include the difficulty of tying shoes, putting on socks, daily hygiene activities. Some indicators of bad knee pain can include the difficulty of getting out of a chair and riding in a car for a long period of time. The hospital stay after a total replacement is two to three days, and you’re home after that. Following that is an aggressive physical therapy process. South Central has an incredible physical therapy program that can come to your house. The South Central Ortopaedic group is located in Laurel, across the street from the hospital.
