One of the many ways South Central OBGYN’s do this is by performing daVinci robot assisted surgeries. Obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. Hugh Stancill explains, “The daVinci robot is a machine that is operated by a physician who is able to control the arms that articulate on this robotic machine.” The doctors to not operate over the patient; instead, they perform it laparoscopically, in which they make small incisions and insert the robot arms. The daVinci robot can be used in any surgery that can be done laparoscopically. Doctors can perform numerous surgeries using the robot including hysterectomies, taking tubes and ovaries out, and fixing bladder damage. The advantages to having a robot assisted surgery include less blood loss, less pain, and a shorter recovery. Dr. Stancill states, “I think it’s very advantageous to have the robot option on any surgery that we do. It just is something that you need to discuss with your physician that that would be the right thing for you to do.”
