Jefferson Medical Associates to Join South Central Regional Medical Center

The physicians at Jefferson Medical Associates announced to their employees this morning that they will be joining South Central Regional Medical Center sometime this fall. Mark Horne, M.D., President and CEO at Jefferson Medical Associates said, “We have been part of this medical community for years and have done an exceptional job of providing care to our patients, and that will not change. Our patient care philosophy will continue under the South Central umbrella of health care services. Patents will see little difference in our operations.”

The physicians at Jefferson Medical Associates and the leadership at South Central have been in discussions for several months about the possibility of South Central purchasing Jefferson Medical Associates. After many discussions, all agreed this week that the move will be good for both entities.

“We look forward to working with the South Central team over the coming months as we transition to hospital ownership,” Dr. Horne said. “Health care rules and regulations have become burdensome, and we look forward to turning that part of the health care business over to the hospital so we can focus our time on patient care.”

Doug Higginbotham, President and CEO at South Central, said, “Jefferson Medical Associates is a great health care facility with great physicians, nurse practitioners and employees. We welcome each of you into the South Central family and we look forward to a smooth transition.”

South Central has acquired several medical clinics over the years, including Laurel Pediatric Clinic, Laurel Family Clinic, OB-GYN Group of Laurel, Laurel Surgery Clinic, Laurel Bone and Joint Clinic and Laurel Urology Clinic, as well as the anesthesia and emergency medicine groups at the medical center.
