South Central Regional Medical Center is home to a da Vinci robot that assists the gynecological surgeons who perform various surgeries. OB-GYN physician, Rebecca Roberts, DO, explains that the robot allows for excellent visualization of the internal anatomy, much easier performance on more difficult cases where there might be some scar tissue or adhesions. Using the robot, surgeons sit at the console and control the laporoscopic instruments with precise wristed movements. The da Vinci robot provides a more 3-dimensional view, which is a big deal when it comes to laporoscopy. Additional benefits to robot assisted surgery are less blood loss and a quicker recovery.
