SCRMC HealthBreak | Fatty Liver Disease

Posted on March 5, 2018

Today in America, almost twenty-five percent of people are living with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, a medical condition associated with obesity that can eventually lead to other conditions and even liver failure. Dr. Stephen Johnson, a board-certified Gastroenterologist at South Central Gastroenterology explains that some people with fatty liver disease can have organ failure and other complications. Because we have so many obese and diabetic people in America, fatty liver disease is becoming an epidemic. If you are overweight or diabetic, you should see your family physician for lab work to see if you have this or not. Fortunately, South Central is the first in the country to provide FibroScan, which is a machine that noninvasively screens for fatty liver disease.
If you think that you may be at risk for fatty liver disease, talk to your primary care provider or call South Central Gastroenterology at (601) 649-2863.
