It’s no secret that kids love to spend lots of time on screens. All kinds of digital devices are popular these days, and they seem to be present everywhere. For years, televisions where the only screens in our homes, but with the invention of the computer, countless gadgets of all types came on the scene and today they are loved by children of all ages. Brett Cutrer, a therapist at South Central Behavioral Health Services in Laurel says that too much screen time can have negative consequences on children. He says that because of screens, children lack human interaction which causes them to not give or receive empathy which can be isolating. Experts suggest that in most homes, screen time for children is excessive and should be restricted. A sign that your child is overdosing on technology may include them withdrawing from relationships they once enjoyed or disruptive behavior that interferes with their normal social activities, schoolwork, or family life. By the time parents identify symptoms in their children, they may already be addicted to electronics. If you have any concerns about the way your child reacts to you limiting their screen time or if they seem to be withdrawing from relationships, call South Central Behavioral Health Services today to schedule an appointment at (601) 426-9714.
