South Central Regional Medical Center is invested in the well-being of the community. Whether someone is a patient in the hospital, has a check-up at a medical clinic or simply exercising at the Wellness Center, the desire throughout the SCRMC health system is to provide excellent care. David Harrison, MD, Medical Director of the Hospitalist Program at SCRMC strives to demonstrate this commitment daily.

“I have been a part of the South Central Medical Staff for the past 11 years. We have added a number of experienced and qualified caregivers,” said Dr. Harrison. “Our SCRMC Hospitalist team is compromised of a diverse group of physicians. We have physicians and nurse practitioners, many of whom are from our community. Their ability to provide quality care to patients is shown daily.”

The SCRMC Hospitalist program includes physicians: David Harrison, MD, Woo Sung Kim, MD, Matthew Kollar, MD, Hamit Kumar, MD, and Joel Shores, MD; and nurse practitioners: Gloria Alridge, NP, Melissa James, FNP, Delane Presley, NP and Erica Windham, NP.

Specializing in the management of hospitalized patients, a Hospitalist focuses on a patient’s hospital care from admission until discharge.  During that time the Hospitalist supervises a plan of coordinated care among physicians, nurses and support staff.

“It is extremely important to communicate the needs of our patients,” states Dr. Harrison. “Our team discusses the plan of care for each patient, and we work to coordinate the care between providers. We work with a patient’s family doctor to assure that the change in care is seamless after discharge.”

South Central’s goal is to provide excellent care and service. The health system makes ongoing investments in the well-being of community upgrading of technology and recruitment of medical providers in our area. By taking these steps, SCRMC is continuing to meet the needs of the patients.

“During my time at SCRMC, I have considered it a blessing,” said Dr. Harrison. “I am thankful to take care of our patients, but they are not just patients. So many of the people that we take care of are neighbors, friends, family or co-workers. It drives our desire to take excellent care of our community.”

South Central Regional Medical Center is a 285-bed, public not-for-profit hospital located in Laurel, MS founded in 1952.
