Custom Optical Services Available by a Certified Optician | South Central Eye & Laser Center
South Central Eye & Laser Center is pleased to offer optical services for patients. Kalea Lunsford, ABO, has joined the practice as an Optician. Kalea is certified through the American Board of Opticianry. This certification demonstrates the knowledge, training and understanding that a person has put into the trade of opticianry.
Along with providing ophthalmology services with Dr. Judith Bradley and Dr. Sarah Queck, South Central Eye & Laser Center is able to fit patients for custom eyewear and contacts.
“The physicians at our practice will provide an eyeglass or contact prescription,” said Lunsford. “My job is to find the perfect fit for your vision. I make sure that you are fitted in appropriate size glasses based on your prescription and then we would select the color and style that the patient is wanting. We are able to offer different lenses, different coatings, and transitions for glasses. As for contacts, we would do the same to find the correct fit and style and then I would place a custom order.”
The field of optical medicine has evolved over time. Lunsford explains, “There are many different options for lenses. The technologies have come a long way for progressives because they are now digital. Progressives are a no-line bifocal or trifocal that have 3 points of vision. These lenses have distance at the top, intermediate in the middle and at the bottom is an optional line for prescription reading.”
So why is it beneficial to order eyewear or contacts through a certified optician? Accuracy.
“The benefit to using an optician is the accuracy of the measurements. From the start you are going to receive the right height for your bifocals or your progressives because it is measured based off your fit. My ultimate job is to help you see better and improve your quality of life.”
