Posted on September 1, 2022

South Central Regional Medical Center Congratulates Alycia Baker on Receiving Her Wound Care Certification.

Alycia Baker, RN, of South Central’s ICU, has recently received her Wound Care Certification from the National Alliance of Wound Care and Ostomy. Wound care nurses prevent and treat wounds of patients who are hospitalized. This can include complex wounds, skin issues from incontinence, surgical wounds, and pressure ulcers.

Alycia has been employed with SCRMC for 8 years. She began her career in Emergency Department Admissions and transitioned to the ICU as a RN tech. After completing her RN degree from Jones College, she returned to SCRMC’s ICU as a full-time RN.

Alycia stated, “I am proud to hold this certification. This will allow me to better serve our patients at SCRMC. I was intrigued by our current wound care team and I wanted the opportunity to develop my skills more in this field. I am thankful for the opportunity to complete this certification.” SCRMC now has 3 certified wound care nurses who provide treatment to inpatients. Along with Alycia Baker, these include: Rhonda Beasley, RN, who is a Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse and Sandra Faircloth, RN, who is Certified Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse.

Millions of patients across the U.S. are affected by non-healing wounds every year. There is a demand for healthcare professionals who are highly skilled in acute and chronic wound care. Wound care, including prevention, management, and treatment, has a significant impact on patient outcomes and morbidity rates, particularly for older patients.
