SCRMC Names Steve Mansfield as Employee of the Quarter!
An Emergency Department charge nurse ought to be calm, comforting, and capable; and Steve Mansfield is the perfect combination of each of these characteristics. Mansfield, with his wife and four kids, has called the Pine-Belt region home for many years. Mansfield began his career at South Central Regional Medical Center (SCRMC) in May of 1990, immediately after graduating from The University of Southern Mississippi with a BSN degree. Mansfield has become a familiar and trusted member of the Emergency Department staff, where he has held the position of nighttime charge nurse for nearly 30 years.
SCRMC announced in March of 2024 that they would begin honoring an Employee of the Quarter and Key Employees as a new means of employee recognition. The process of choosing who receives the Employee of the Quarter distinction begins with an internal nomination process, which is open to any member of the SCRMC staff who wishes to submit a peer for consideration. Then the winner is chosen through an anonymous numbers-based voting process by a committee of individuals from across the organization.
Mansfield’s nomination was filled with positive anecdotes about his character and work ethic, but the committee was most impressed by his leadership and service-minded approach to nursing. It was said, “Steve always has time to help, teach, or answer any question. He has a kind, caring approach with the patient. He is a leader in every form of the word, and never asks anyone to perform a task that he himself isn’t willing to do. He leads by example.” His director, Twila Coleman, says, “He has mentored many staff members. He is an amazing person. Nothing wavers him. He is a leader and his main goal is taking care of patients. This award is very well deserved.” SCRMC is proud to recognize such an outstanding first Employee of the Quarter!
