South Central Dermatology is now offering Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment as a solution for hair loss. PRP works by drawing the patient’s blood and extracting the Platelet Rich Plasma to be injected into the area experiencing hair loss to stimulate the hair follicles.
Brittany Gardner, FNP-C discusses ideal candidates for PRP treatment and what the process looks like. “Ideal candidates are patients who have androgenic alopecia, which is also called male pattern baldness or female pattern baldness,” says Gardner. “It is recommended to do a series of three, four weeks apart. So you’ll do one each month for the first three months, and then after that you’ll need maintenance treatments. Usually those are every three, six, or twelve months depending on the patient.”
