South Central Regional Medical Center’s Health Care Foundation Hosts Annual Holston Memorial Golf Tournament
On Oct. 18, 2024, The South Central Health Care Foundation held its annual Holston Memorial Golf Tournament at the Laurel Country Club.
This tournament, which began as a Doctors’ Day Tournament in 1985, has evolved throughout recent years into a philanthropic effort to support SCRMC’s nonprofit, The South Central Health Care Foundation. This yearly fundraiser, in conjunction with other efforts, helps enable the foundation to continue to offer patient screenings, health education opportunities and patient benevolence efforts to members of the community.
This year’s tournament was a huge success with two flights of golfers and a fleet of volunteers, who were eager to support the foundation.
“The South Central Health Care Foundation, which has been serving the area since 1992, is immensely grateful for the generosity of those who share our vision for a healthier community,” said Foundation Director, Kaitlin Bossier. “The tournament is named in honor of the late physician, Dr. James Holston, who was a pediatrician at SCRMC for many years. Dr. Holston worked tirelessly to care for the most vulnerable population in our area, our children; and we are excited to use the proceeds from this event to further that same effort.”
The proceeds from this year’s tournament have been allocated for the SCRMC Maternal Child Department, who will use these earnings to help offset the costs of meaningful improvements to their unit including the purchase of rocking chairs for the NICU.
“We are so grateful to be the beneficiaries of this year’s tournament proceeds,” said Maternal Child Director, Cynthia Bonner. “Our unit is well used and in need of updates. We have delivered nearly 900 babies this year, and we are excited to welcome many more families into our care in the coming days, months and years. We will use this donation to continue to improve the patient experience for families who choose to deliver at South Central.”
The Holston Memorial Golf Tournament would not be possible without the generous support of sponsors and participants. This year’s title sponsor was Community Bank and other area businesses such as Edward Jones: Michael Cudworth; Kim’s No Bull; Howard Technology Solutions; Carr, Riggs & Ingram CPAs; Cannon Motors; B Clean, LLC; Burroughs Companies; Cadence Bank; Cigna Healthcare; The First Bank; Four Seasons Lawn & Landscape; Headrick Outdoor Media; Jackson Newell Paper; Jones College; Mississippi Power; Walters Construction Company; Covington County Hospital; The Family of James M. Holston, MD; Radiology Associates; Alon Medical Technology; Burson Entrekin Orr Mitchell & Lacey, PA; Commercial Business Interiors Inc.; Empower; Laurel Oaks Dentistry; Thermo-Kool; Vizient, Inc.; Amick Farms; Main Spaces; Stokes Distributing Company, Inc.; and Coca-Cola were instrumental in the success of the tournament.
In addition to the Holston Memorial Golf Tournament, The South Central Health Care Foundation is also conducting a Sporting Clay Shoot on Nov. 8 and various other fundraising events throughout the year. Monetary donations to the foundation, however, are accepted at any time. To sign up for upcoming fundraisers or to donate to the foundation call, 601-399-5503.
