Employee of the Quarter- Rose Herrington

SCRMC Names Rose Herrington as Q3 Employee of the Quarter

When Rose Herrington first volunteered at SCRMC as a teenage candy striper in the early 1970s, she never would have guessed that she would devote the next 40 years to caring for patients at South Central.

Rose, who was born and raised in Jones County, originally planned to be a secretary. However, after accompanying her mom during nursing shifts at a local long-term care facility, she quickly decided that she had a heart for patient care.

In 1977, shortly after completing Radiology school, Rose began working full-time in various roles throughout the hospital, until 1983 when she was asked to begin facilitating CT scans.

“I just love people. I love talking to people and helping people,” said Rose, when asked what her favorite aspect of her job was. “I play a part to try and make patients feel comfortable and reassured that they will be taken care of no matter the outcome.”

Rose has watched as the Radiology Department has grown and improved as technology progressed throughout the years, and her positive attitude and inspiring work ethic have helped spur the radiology team into reaching higher levels of productivity and patient satisfaction. In 2024 alone, the department has received orders from virtually every department in the hospital, and the team has scanned, facilitated biopsies or conducted run-offs for thousands of patients.

The process of choosing who receives the Employee of the Quarter distinction begins with an internal nomination process, which is open to any member of the SCRMC staff who wishes to submit a peer for consideration. Then the winner is chosen through an anonymous numbers-based voting process by a committee of individuals from across the organization.

“The primary reason Rose received this accolade is the same reason she began candy striping; it’s her passion for taking care of patients. She is compassionate and empathetic with her patients. She remembers them and they remember her,” said SCRMC Radiology Director, Dewayne Brown. “She makes an impression on them and takes their mind off the test they are having done. If you are the patient, you can tell she cares. You are not another number.”

SCRMC is grateful for the years of vital work that Rose has done for its organization and is proud to commend her for her excellent service.
