Luke Everwine, a member of the West Jones High School baseball team, was up to bat during a regular season game against PRC when he was struck in the face by a pitch. Thankfully, SCRMC Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer, Joel Pierce PT, DPT, ATC, CSCS was there in attendance and ready to respond.
“Everwine is up to bat and literally takes a pitch off his face,” said Pierce. “When we saw that happen, we immediately got out there as the athletic trainer. We are assessing the situation to see if this is an emergency situation or if this is something that is manageable with the staff we have. His dad took him to the emergency room, and that is where he received stitches, x-rays and scans. And come to find out he had a nasal fracture.”
Due to the comprehensive and expedient care that Luke received from the time the incident occurred, he was able to return to the baseball field in less than a month.
