World Mental Health Day
Posted on October 9, 2025
In today’s current climate, it can often seem as though there is a catastrophe everywhere we look. It is for this reason that the World Health Organization has chosen “mental health in humanitarian emergencies” as this year’s theme for World Mental Health Day.
With so much darkness in the news and on social media, it’s more important than ever to take steps to protect your mental well-being. Here are a few ways to help safeguard your mental health:
-
Spend less time scrolling on social media. It is always good to stay informed on developing problems around the world, but not everyone talking about the issue is credible enough to be an authority on the issue. Scrolling through social media is not a good way to consume news, and too much scrolling can feel like information overload.
-
Talk to other people. Often things like reading the newspaper, online news sources or watching live news coverage can evoke feelings of helplessness, isolation and despair. It is not good for your mental health to process all of those feelings on your own. Find a trusted friend, family member or certified counselor to help you work through how you feel.
-
Take care of yourself. Focus on things you can control, such as eating well-balanced meals, exercising and sleeping for an adequate length of time.
