South Central Foundation, the recently rebranded philanthropic arm of South Central Regional Medical Center,welcomed 200-plus community members and many visitors from out of state to “Lights, Camera, Care!” This free celebration and viewing party was held at South Central Place in honor of the release of a “Home Town” episode featuring the partial renovation of SCRMC’s Women’s and Children’s Unit.    

Families kicked off the event at 5 p.m. with the Heroes on Wheels emergency vehicle tour and enjoyed dinner and other specialty items from H & T Concessions, HAND+made Lemonade and Kassy’s Kones.  

Later in the evening, guests enjoyed popcorn while watching the episode of “Home Town.” The show’s hosts and Laurel locals Ben and Erin Napier, along with their talented design team, executed the redesign of four key areas within the unit, including one postpartum room, one labor and delivery room, one pediatric room and the waiting room. 

“This event is such an exciting milestone for SCRMC,” said Susan Sanders, South Central’s Executive Director of Foundation and Marketing. “However, our work at the SCF is far from over. We will continue to raise funds for ‘Where Care Begins,’ our current capital campaign.”  

“Where Care Begins” was launched by SCF in August of 2025 for the purpose of raising $2 million to restore the beloved Women’s & Children’s Unit at South Central Regional Medical Center. The Foundation is generating revenue for this campaign through several events, including its annual golf tournament, clay shoot, teddy bear tea and Hope Hustle 5K.  

At the event, the SCF also kicked off its ceiling tile painting project, an initiative that will function as an ongoing fundraiser.  

Individuals were able to purchase a singular tile, or families could share a tile for $50. The tiles were painted on-site at the event and will be installed in the renovated Women’s & Children’s Unit.   

Community members who were unable to attend the event may still participate in the ceiling tile fundraiser. Tiles may be purchased and painted independently. To purchase a tile, please call the Foundation at 601-399-0503.
