Last week, South Central Regional Medical Center set another record with Epic: becoming the first hospital in the state to offer MyChart Bedside TV to patients and families. This new feature, launched in the recently renovated First West Wing, enhances the inpatient experience by giving patients and their families real‑time access to health information, care plans and tools to communicate directly with their care team via a large 55-inch in-room television monitor.
MyChart Bedside TV gives patients the ability to view their patient schedules, giving patients a clear outline of what their stay will look like and an estimation of when they will be discharged, as well as an understanding of who is on their care team during their stay. Additionally, patients can view their lab results and review their diagnoses and medications on a larger-than-life display.
“We want patients to feel informed, empowered and connected during their time with us,” SCRMC President and CEO Gregg Gibbes said. “Being the first in the state, and one of only 15 in the Epic community across the world, to offer this capability is a milestone we are proud of.”
MyChart Bedside TV is also a powerful tool for family members who are helping manage their loved one’s inpatient care.
“We want patients and family members to feel informed, not overwhelmed, and this is a tool to help us achieve that goal,” said South Central West Wing Director Brittnie Jordan, RN, BSN. “We are confident it will enhance the patient experience by giving patients clear, accessible information about their care.”
South Central continues to expand its use of Epic technologies to improve patient engagement and access to information. MyChart Bedside TV is an extension of MyChart Bedside, which is a previously introduced software that allows users to access similar inpatient information from their mobile device.
“Connectivity is becoming increasingly important in health care,” Chief Operating Officer-Partner Hospitals and Epic Executive Sponsor Alania Cedillo, PharmD, FACHE, said. “MyChart Bedside TV brings convenience, clarity and connection together in a way that truly enhances the hospital experience for patients and their families.”
The introduction of MyChart Bedside TV reflects SCRMC’s ongoing commitment to improving communication, transparency and patient engagement through innovative technology.
