January is National Blood Donor Month

Posted on December 30, 2015

South Central Regional Medical Center recognizes the month of January as National Blood Donor Month.

Why Should You Donate Your Blood?
Supply: About 60 percent of the population is eligible to donate, yet less than four percent actually do.
Demand: Every three seconds, someone needs a blood transfusion; at least 500 pints of blood must be collected every day to meet the needs of patients in our area.
Impact: One pint of blood from one donor can save up to three lives.
Age: 20 percent of blood recipients are children—many are cancer patients.
Safety: The blood donation procedure is 100 percent safe.
Convenience: The procedure takes about 45 minutes.
Affordability: Blood donation is 100 percent free.

To donate blood locally, please visit the Cameron Center at 711 North 10th Avenue in Laurel from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. For more information, please call 601-270-5051 or visit unitedbloodservices.org.

United Blood Services is proud to be South Central Regional Medical Center blood provider.
