A Tribute to Mrs. Becky Brewer, Longtime SCRMC Board of Trustees Member Remembered for Her Impact

South Central mourns the loss of Mrs. Elsa Rebecca “Becky” Brewer, a longtime member of the hospital’s Board of Trustees, who recently passed away.

Mrs. Brewer served as the South Central Regional Medical Center Board of Trustee for Beat One beginning in 2009 after retiring from a management position with South Central Family Medicine – a role in which she was often remembered for her professionalism and grace.

She approached her role as a board member with the same dedication, compassion and servant leadership that defined every other aspect of her life.

During her many years of faithful service on the Board, she helped bring about countless changes and improvements that helped increase the services that SCRMC has been able to offer. Most notably was her vision to bring expanded cancer care services to Laurel in what is known as today as one of the most state-of-the-art Cancer Centers in our state.

She cared deeply for her community, and she knew the importance of creating accessible, comprehensive care options here in Laurel.

No single accomplishment defines Ms. Brewer’s legacy, and she would not want to be remembered for her personal achievements. She cared more about kindness, generosity and improving the lives of others. This is the legacy that mattered most to her, and it is precisely the one she left behind.

Her roots run deep in Jones County, where she was born, raised and spent her life faithfully serving. A woman of steadfast faith, Mrs. Brewer has been a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Sharon for as long as anyone can remember. She faithfully brought a helping hand and a prayerful heart to congregational gatherings, never hesitating to serve wherever she was needed.

We are grateful for her leadership, and her legacy leaves a lasting impact for many years to come.
