South Central Nephrology is a service of South Central Regional Medical Center focused on the kidneys. A nephrologist treats a wide array of diseases or conditions of the kidneys, including the following:

  • Chronic kidney disease- A chronic condition that inhibits the bodies ability to filter waste and excess fluid out of the body.
  • Acute kidney injury- A sudden decline in kidney function, that may be caused by dehydration, medication use or reduced blood flow.
  • Glomerulonephritis- inflammation of the glomeruli, the tiny filtering units within the kidneys.
  • Kidney failure- A condition that causes fluid-filled cysts in the kidney. These cysts can become enlarged and greatly impair kidney function, making dialysis necessary.
  • Post-kidney transplant care- Ongoing care for a person that has received a kidney transplant.
    • They need continual monitoring of kidney function as well as assistance with medication management and complication prevention.
  • Treatment of conditions associated with kidney dysfunction
    • Electrolyte imbalances- A condition in which there are abnormal levels of minerals such as sodium, potassium, calcium or phosphorus in the body.
    • High blood pressure- This common cardiovascular condition can be caused by poor kidney function.
    • Anemia- A condition in which the body does not produce the right amount of red blood cells.

South Central Nephrologist Muhammad Khan, MD, is currently accepting new patients. He is supported by a team of dedicated staff.

All patients will need a referral to schedule an appointment.
