Total joint replacement is a surgical procedure in which parts of an arthritic or damaged joint are removed and replaced with a device called a prosthesis. The prosthesis is designed to replicate the movement of a normal, healthy joint.
In 2011, almost 1 million total joint replacements were performed in the United States. Hip and knee replacements are the most commonly performed joint replacements, but replacement surgery can be performed on other joints, including the ankle, wrist, shoulder and elbow.
The surgeons at South Central Orthopedics, a division of South Central Regional Medical Center, trained at some of the top orthopedic surgery training programs in the country and have performed thousands of procedures. Each patient is evaluated and provided an individualized course of treatment.
The healthcare team strives to provide innovative, comprehensive care to patients who have elected to undergo total joint replacement surgery. Joint Camp is a program dedicated to the comprehensive care of hip replacement and knee replacement patients. Joint Camp combines extensive pre-operative education for the patient and their family, outstanding patient care, and group-focused therapy in an environment created to enhance faster healing and recovery.
