Direct Access Colonoscopy

Direct Access Colonoscopy Service provided by South Central Gastroenterology.

We make it easier for you to schedule your colonoscopy screening.

Scheduling your colonoscopy screening has never been easier. Here is how:

The direct access colonoscopy service for South Central Gastroenterology makes colon cancer screening procedures more accessible for everyone. This program allows healthy individuals, age 45 and older, to schedule a colonoscopy screening without scheduling an initial office visit and pick up preparation supplies at a pharmacy of your choice. By skipping these steps, you will save valuable time.

So, where do I sign up?

To begin, click the button at the bottom of the page and complete the form. It’s important that you provide the most reliable phone numbers and email to contact you. If you are not available when we call, we will leave a message and attempt to call you back. Or, you can contact our program directly at (601) 518-7106.

So, what happens now?

Once our Direct Access Nurse Navigator contacts you, a complete health questionnaire will be completed by phone. By answering these questions, the nurse will decided if the direct access colonoscopy service is the best option for you. If so, your procedure will be scheduled as quickly as possible.

It is time to get ready. Here is what you need to know:

After you are scheduled for your colonoscopy, our Nurse Navigator will answer your questions about colonoscopies. Then, a prescription for the bowel preparation will be called into the pharmacy of your choice. This preparation will need to be completed before your procedure.

You will meet your doctor right before your colonoscopy. After the procedure, he or she will talk with you about their findings. Results and recommendations for follow-up will be sent to your referring physician.

So, what if direct access colonoscopy is not for me?

It is important to know that direct access colonoscopy is not always the best screening examination choice for everyone. Patients with the following conditions may be advised to schedule an office visit before the procedure:

  • Underlying abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits or any other gastrointestinal issues
  • Significant illnesses (poorly controlled diabetes, significant cardiac disease, severe breathing problems, kidney problems)

If you are not a candidate for Direct Access by South Central Gastroenterology, do not worry. Our trained staff are experienced and will talk with you about the best path for your completing your screening procedure.
